Day 1

Arrive in Marrakech. Reception and transfer to a 3 or 4 star half-board hotel.  Visit Majorelle Gardens and the Koutoubia minaret. Lunch in the square. Spend the afternoon exploring the heart and soul of the city. Spend the night in the hotel.

Day 2

Leave Marrakech and head towards the Atlantic Ocean. Drive 3 hours to the ‘Moroccan wind city’ Essaouira, also known as Mogador, a very old Portuguese port with lots of charm and history. Lunch in Essaouira. Spend the afternoon exploring the old city and have an evening walk on the beach. Spend the night in a half-board hotel.

Day 3

After breakfast take a slow drive along the Atlantic coast. Experience beautiful landscapes and have lunch on the road in a small Berber village. In the afternoon visit the paradise valley. Spend the night in a hotel in Agadir city.

Day 4

Travel to Ouarzazat, known as the Door of the Desert. During the long drive through the oasis you can enjoy the rich colours of the scenery. Lunch at Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, made famous in films and television programs. Spend the night in Ouarzazat at the half-board hotel Les Jardins de Ouarzazat.

Day 5

Explore the Dades valley on the south east face of the Atlas Mountains. This is a truly fascinating part of Morocco and brilliant for photography. Visit the M’goun mountain, the fourth highest peak of the Atlas Mountains. It is remarkably rich in geology and has spectacular hills and faults. We will be walking all morning then head to the Dades valley, also very famous for its gorges and mixture of fabulous colors. In the evening head back to Ouarzazat to stay in the same hotel.

Day 6

After breakfast head towards Draa valley with beautiful landscapes. Stop at a site of unique Precambrian stromatolites then head along the Draa valley. Picnic in the desert under the shade of some palm trees.  In the afternoon drive further to Serradrar to visit a Silurian site to ollect black Orthoceras. Spend the night at Hotel Meterorite in Alnif

Day 7

Depart from Alnif to visit the Ordovician site Jbel Tiskaouine, rich in calymenes, flexycalymenes and yellow trilobites.  Cross to the Devonian beds to collect rolled phacops trilobites. In the evening go back to Hotel Meteorite.

Day 8

Leave Alnif to collect black pyritesed goniatites at Lakrabis then explore Isoumour which has an abundance of famous trilobites. This is an area where all species of Devonian trilobites lived together. Collect rolled phacops. In the afternoon drive to the spectacular Merzouga sand dunes. In the evening head over to Riad Kem Kem in Merzouga.

Day 9

Head south towards Taouz to visit the famous Kemkem site rich in fish, crocodiles and spinosaurus bones and teeth. Then picnic in the old mine of Filon 12, famous for its vanadinite. Visit a prehistoric site then visit an equinoderm quarry then back to Riad Kem Kem.

Day 10

Travel to north Merzouga. Collect corals, ammonites, orthoceras, trilobites and speroferes at the Hamar Laghdad Kes Kes formation. Have lunch under Acacia trees. Visit famous Erfoud, an echinoderms quarry and then spend a final night at Riad Kem Kem.  

Day 11

After breakfast, drive to visit a factory to see the processes of the fossil industry from the blocks seen in nature to the final product. Visit the museum in Erfoud then lunch. In the afternoon walk through Erfoud and spend the night in Erfoud at a half-board hotel. 

Day 12

Drive north to Midelt through the Jurassic along Ziz Valley and Ziz Gorge and collect Jurassic brachiopods. Spend the night in Midelt at a hotel.

Day 13

Drive to Marrakech for an afternoon where you will be free to explore the city and experience the world-famous markets and museums. 

Day 14

Transfer to airport.
